A special Arbor Day presentation was held at Wessington Springs Elementary School Monday to celebrate the holiday that encourages the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees while honoring the memory of WSES student Reba Carothers.  Reba passed away Monday, February 5, days after she was struck by a car while trying to board a school bus on Jan. 26.

Tom and Kathy Dean, who donated the tree, along with friends and family of Carothers, planted a bur oak at the south end of the playground. Reba’s family was present at the ceremony and included Rayna Carothers, Rebecca (Carothers) Doty, Gage Doty, Dean Carothers and Kylie Carothers.
