Spartans Shine at Junior High Track and Field Meet in Springs

On Monday, April 15, 2024, teams blew into Spartan Stadium to participate in the junior high track & field meet. Athletes competed in the 7th grade or 8th grade division. If a school used an 8th grade runner to complete a relay team, they competed in the 8th grade division even though three runners were 7th grade or so forth.

In the 7th grade shot put, Baleigh Sails was 2nd throwing 19’ 10” and Tenley Olinger was 6th throwing 16’ 0”. Kaebry Dixon threw the shot put in 8th grade division. In 7th grade discus, Lily Roesler threw 40’ 10” and Tenley Olinger threw 39’ 0” for 6th and 7th places respectively. Also throwing was Baleigh Sails.

Lily Roesler was 8th in 100m hurdles with 26.96. Running the 100m dash for 7th grade was Madilyn Gaikowski, Baleigh Sails, Kenzie Kolousek, 15.28 for 2nd place, and Swayzee Dunsmore, 16.82 for 7th place. Brooke Mohling was 2nd in 8th grade with her time of 15.96. Mohling led off the 4x200 relay, passing the baton to Londyn Mikkelson, Kaebry Dixon, and Kenzie Kolousek as they crossed the line in 1st place of the 8th grade division in 2:08.1.

The 7th grade 4x100 relay of Lily Roesler, Swayzee Dunsmore, Madilyn Gaikowski, Tenley Olinger were 4th to cross the line in 1:07.9. Madilyn Gaikowski ran the 400m dash in 7th grade division. Brooke Mohling was 2nd in the 8th grade division with her 1:20.

The medley relay was 100, 100, 200, 400; and we ran in the 8th grade division with Swayzee Dunsmore, Kenzie Kolousek, Londyn Mikkelson, and Kaebry Dixon crossing the line in 1st place in 2:20. Seventh grader, Lily Roesler was 4th in the 800m run. Girls running in the 200m dash for 7th graders were: Tenley Olinger, Madilyn Gaikowski, Swayzee Dunsmore, 37.68 for 7th place; and Londyn Mikkelson, 35.56 for 4th place. The girls took 1st place in 8th grade milerelay with Brooke Mohling, Londyn Mikkelson, Kaebry Dixon, and Kenzie Kolousek in 5:02.9.

Throwing shot put for 7th grade were Micah Orth, 27’ 10.5” to land in 3rd place and Wyatt Arhart, 26’ 7” to get 5th place. Micah and Wyatt also threw the discus. Wyatt was 7th with his throw of 56’5”. In 8th grade, Jaspur Gran threw 36’ 6.5” for 2nd place and Hayes Christensen threw 21’ 2” for 6th place. Jaspur was 5th in the discus with his throw of 67’ 7” and Hayes was 8th in the discus with 38’ 1”.

Will Grohs won the 8th grade 100m dash in 13.03. Jaspur Gran also ran the 100m dash. Mitchell Orth ran 17.72 and finished 8th place in the 7th grade division. Sutten Jensen was 2nd in the 7th grade boys’ mile run and Kohen Mebius was 4th in the 8th grade boys’ mile run.

The boys ran in the 8th grade division for the 4x100m relay with Hayes, Wyatt, Micah, and Jaspur finishing in 1:11.06 for 3rd place. The medley relay of Wyatt, Micah, Mitchell, and Sutten ran 2:30.3 in the 7th grade boy’s division and finished in 4th place. Mitchell Orth was 3rd in the 200m dash for 7th grade, running a 39.78. The mile relay was in the 8th grade division, and they ran 5:29 for 2nd place. Members running were Mitchell Orth, Hayes Christensen, Sutten Jensen, and Kohen Mebius.

Wessington Springs will be the host site for the JH 281 conference track & field meet back out at Spartan Stadium on Monday, April 29, 2024. Kids will compete in one division. Field events start at 1 p.m. with running to start at 2 p.m.
