Why was it you moved away from Wessington Springs? Coming home looks a whole lot better all the time

Whatever it was you probably already know there is a trend toward returning home for retirement.

Safe living conditions, living among friends who care about you… even the weather is pretty good most of the year.

colony pumpkin kidsQuite a few people got tired of fighting the crowds and came back to town…. for instance, John and Pat Berens (Washington State), bought a little farmette outside of town. Worried about missing the kids and grand kids? Heck, the Berenses brought’em along!

Bucky Wolters and his wife, both formerly of Alpena, returned to Wessington Springs to retire. Bernie Maxwell and his wife Cherie, are enjoyed the good life in Wessington Springs after living on the west coast for many years. Gail and Susan Arnott returned home after Gail finished his career in the Air Force. They now own the Gov. Vessey home in town and appear to be having a wonderful time here.

Adaline Schlagel returned to Wessington Springs for retirement. So did Carolyn Larson. Ron and Jane Mook –he’s related to the Bult family– came back to Springs to retire. So did Harry Bult.

Jerry Higgins, Jr., and his wife moved to Springs, built a house and retired. Nice.

Jobs? Well, there are a lot of home-based service businesses — Grohs Electric, Larson Painting, construction people, Cherie’s Taxidermy, etc. And they’re always looking for people at Weskota Manor (I’ve attached their current “help wanted” pdf here weskota manor help wanted and Van Dyke’s taxidermy supply in Woonsocket hires a few hundred van dyke employment ad people. And over in Alpena Jack Link’s Beef Jerky has 700 jobs and are usually hiring. Your own home-based computer business or whatever could probably work here as well.

And we welcome strangers like they’re part of the family!

Are you catching my drift?????

Your house in the city would pay for twice the house in Wessington Springs. Right now there are two houses under construction in my neighborhood, and we’re pretty happy about it.

With the hospital, clinic, nursing home available for those in need, Springs has become a pretty good little retirement village.

The deer hunting,  pheasant hunting, golf course, nearby camping, walleye fishing at the Missouri River and snow mobiling in the winter has its draw for younger people, too. Camping and hiking are popular passtimes around here. The town’s free camp ground, free swimming pool and a winter sledding hill add to the outdoor recreation possibilities.

As a matter of fact, Springs looked like such a good place to raise kids and work that Penny and I moved here 34 years ago… and we’re still Lovin’ it!

Hope to see you around here some time.
