The Jerauld County 4-H Achievement Days will be held August 5th and 6th in Wessington Springs. What is 4-H? 4- H is a non-profit organization operated through the Cooperative Extension Service. In 4-H youth learn life skills they will benefit from forever. The project opportunities in 4-H are seemingly infinite. 4-H members learn useful knowledge and skills in all areas, from photography, to sewing, craft projects, livestock showmanship, baking to horticulture. 4-H’ers learn how to work in a group, make new friends, and more, all while having fun. Through 4-H, youth acquire incredible skills to become an effective leader and a good citizen of our community.
The Jerauld County 4-H will once again be awarding prizes to the 4-H youth during the county Achievement Days on August 5th and 6th. 4-H’ers will bring their static exhibits to be judged on August 5th and the judges will be giving Best of Show Ribbons to outstanding projects. Along with the ribbon the 4-H’ers will receive a cash award. The public may come to the Ag Building to view the exhibits from 4 – 8 pm on August 5th and 10am – 2pm on August 6th. The livestock show will be held on August 6th beginning at 10:30am at the 4-H Barn. Awards will be given for Grand and Reserve Champion and Showmanship winners in each species. To conclude our show we will be holding a Round Robin Showmanship Contest.
A sponsored free supper will be served to the 4-H families and people from the community who come out to support them.
Prizes awarded during Achievement Days are done through sponsorships. If you, or your business or farm have not been contacted and would like to sponsor an award or help with the supper please call the Extension Office at 605 539-9471 and talk to Heather or Julie.
