The public is invited to attend an open meeting on Monday, March 1, 2010 to hear the proposal for a wind energy project in this area. The meeting will be hosted by the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and will be held at the American Legion in
White Lake.
PrairieWinds SD1 –a subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Co.– filed an applicatoin with the PUC for a facility permit for the construction of a 151.5 megawatt wind energy facility that begins approximately one-half mile south of Crow Lake in Jerauld County. The wind farm would continue 10-15 miles south toward White Lake.
The project site would cover 37,000 acres of land within Brule, Aurora and Jerauld counties.
Each wind turbine would be connected by a service road for access and an underground electrical collection system. The farm would also interconnect to an exisiting substation that is located south of Wessington Springs.
The application is on file at the Aurora, Brule and Jerauld County auditor’s offices as well as available at www.puc.sd.gov.
A wind farm with 33 towers is currently operating south of town, beginning approximately 2 1/’2 miles south of Wessington Springs. The new farm would add 101 towers to the area.
