Adopt the Museum: Jim and Belle Hinrichs have adopted the Jerauld County Pioneer Museum for the month of August.
When they visit the museum they can tell you about reading by the light of a kerosene lamp, cranking the wall telephone to call “central”, or buying coal for a kitchen range such as the one in the museum’s kitchen area.
Belle knows about dinner pails and cleaning blackboard erasers because she was both a student in a one-room country school and later a teacher in such a school. She can also tell of the advantages her great-grandchildren have in the larger city schools which they now attend.
Jim can tell you about strapping a husking hook on his hand to pick corn on a cold fall day or about today’s combines taking big swaths through the cornfield while the driver sits comfortably inside the cab.
