Locals win Masters awards

The 12th Annual SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Creative Art Show and Competition for artists over age 60 was held October 27-28, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls.

Margaret Schmidt, of Lane, won in the Masters Drawing/Pastels division with a first and Best of Show 2D for a portrait of her grandson, entitled, “Corey In Iraq.” She also was first in the Masters Watercolor Painting entitled, “Spotting Some Daisies.”

Lowell D. Stanley, of Wessington Springs, won two honorable mentions in the Experienced Photography division for his photographs, “Split Rock Lighthouse” and “White Truck”.

Louise Schaller, Wessington Springs, was third in the Experienced Oil Painting division with her painting, “Kittens”.

With nearly 160 entries, professional judges Terry Green and Arne Bortnem awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place, Honorable Mentions and Best of Show to art pieces in seven different mediums of two age groups.
