Local business robbed; ATM taken

Three neighboring businesses on the south end of town have been broken into

A local convenience store was broken into and an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) was stolen last week. According to the Jerauld County Sheriff’s Department, an unknown number of people broke into the Pit Stop convenience store– located at the intersection of Dakota Ave. and SD Highway 34 late Tuesday night, Dec. 15 or in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 16. Considerable damage was done to the building including smashing a glass door and a small side window. The Pit Stop is owned by Kelli and Mark Gran, of Wessington Springs. The investigation is continuing according to Sheriff Thompson. It is not known if the break-in is linked to previous burglaries to businesses in that area of town including Jerry’s Motor Clinic, American Legion/Prairie Lounge and prior break-ins at the Pit Stop.

$2,000 reward offered for information

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons involved in the break-in of the Wessington Springs business, the Pit Stop the night of December 15 or early morning hours of December 16, 2009. Anyone with this information is asked to contact the Jerauld County Sheriff’s Department at 605-539-1311.
