A SHORT-LIVED, heavy snow storm passed throught Jerauld County on Monday, October 12. The two horses, six miles west of Springs, didn’t seem to mind the early taste of winter. Thankfully, the weather straightened up for the opening weekend of pheasant season. This photo was printed in black and white in the True Dakotan (October 20, 2009). We thought you might like to see it in color. Photo/Duke WenzelMANY OF THE TREES IN THE AREA lost their leaves nearly instantly as the temperature dipped to an unseasonable low on Friday night, Oct. 9. The pile of leaves on the street and in the yard are at the Cecile Knight home in Wessington Springs. The leaves on the ash trees dropped so quickly that they must have made a “whomp” sound when they hit the ground. The cold pretty much put an end to the growing season in the area. Note the colorful mum flowers that seem to be the last to go each year.
