Jerauld County residents went to the polls on Tuesday, November 4. Sen. John McCain, R-Az, took a slim 546-542 win in the county but lost the national election to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
On the local level District 22 voters sent Wessington Springs farmer Quinten Burg back to the SD House of Representatives. Peggy Gibson, another Democrat from Huron, was elected to the House. Tom Hansen, of Huron, defeated Dale Hargens for the District 22 seat in the SD Senate. On the state level, Jerauld voters favored Sen. Tim Johnson and Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, who were the statewide winners as well.
Connie Ness was elected Jerauld County treasurer, defeating Bonnie Powell.
There was a 70% turnout for the election with 1126 of 1616 registered voters casting ballots.
