4-H Recognition Event

The annual 4-H Recognition Event was held on Sunday, November 8th at the Ag Building in Wessington Springs.

The event started with a potluck supper starting at 6:30pm with the awards ceremony following supper. 4-H Leader Association President Mary Reider and Vice-President Aaron Schelske presented the awards to the 4-H members who met the criteria needed to receive their awards. The 4-H members were presented awards for Static and Livestock. This is the 3rd year for our Cloverbud Club and those members were presented with certificates and gifts.

Horse Leaders Steve Deneke and John Stevens presented the Horse awards and Shooting Sports Leaders Steve Deneke, Michael Brodkorb and Keith Wetzel presented the Shooting Sports awards. We would like to thank Central Electric Cooperative and SD Wheat Growers for helping to sponsor these awards. Each year the Parent/Leader Association presents a special award to those 4-H members who met their criteria for the year plus did judging at the State level; this year those members were presented T-shirts.

This year we decide to give premium money for ribbons received at the Horse Show and Achievement Days. Each ribbon was worth so much money and the kids received checks for their ribbon totals. The premium money was sponsored in part by the 4-H Leaders, the HummDinger, Springs Auto & First National Bank of SD. Volunteers were also recognized for their support of the Jerauld/Buffalo County 4-H program.

Thank you to the people who volunteered their time to judge for us at Achievement Days this year. Those people were FCS Extension Educator – Davison County – Ellyn Eddy, Sherry Kleppin, Duke Wenzel, Craig Shryock, Sheila Christensen and Linda Burg, Round Robin Judges – Jim Eagle, Tony Aldrich & Aaron Schelske.

We would like to recognize and thank all of our sponsors who donated money or items for Achievement Days. Those sponsors are Schelske Angus, Springs Auto, HummDinger, Larry Wenzel Family, Les Caffee, Hainy Farms, First National Bank of SD, Prairie Livestock Supply, Gary Caffee, Scott Supply, VanDyke Suffolks, American Bank and Trust, Barry & Sharon Krueger, Jim Scheel, Rockin C Ranch, Chris & Sheila Christensen, SD Wheat Growers and thank you to Dr. Travis White and Dr. Kelli Tobin for donating their time to be our vets for the Horse Show and Achievement Days. Each year we present a “Friend of 4-H” Award to someone who has helped our 4-H Program this year.

This year we presented 2 awards. The awards went to Jean Shultz for her support of the 4-H Horse Program and Mitch Caffee for his help with the 4-H Livestock program. Each year we also present and “Alumni Award” to a person who has been a past 4-Her and has helped the 4-H program this year. This award this year was presented to Matt Sinkie. Matt helped out with many of the livestock judging events this year. Below is a list of the award winners for the 2008-2009 4-H year.
