WSHS cross country teams vault Becky Bell-Krueger to top of state’s coaches

BY CRAIG WENZEL – TRUE DAKOTAN EDITOR

becky bell-kruegerThe first time Becky Bell- Krueger ever attended a cross country meet of any kind was when she took her student-athletes to their first meet in August of 2006. “It was our first meet and we missed getting the second place trophy by one point,” she recalls. Since that humble beginning in the cross country coaching field Becky has achieved three consecutive Class B high school cross country state championship trophies.

For these exceptional accomplishments Becky Bell-Krueger has been named the 2009 South Dakota Cross Country Coach of the Year by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association.

Paced by the fearsome foursome of Mitch Kraft, Drew Kraft, Cordell Muilenburg and Jase Kraft, the Spartan team has gone on to dominate their sport in the state, winning team championships in 2007, 2008 and again in 2009. They also have captured an equal number of district and regional titles along the way.

The Springs girls have done well as Mindy Kraft has a state title under her belt and is joined by teammates Lindsey Mettler and Amy Woodruff.
