The Wessington Springs Owls have advanced to the District 3 championship game with wins in the first two rounds at Plankinton. The District 3 championship game will be Thursday night in Plankinton at 8:00 pm. as the Owls face Miller/Wessington. The loser of that game will have to play Friday night for one last chance for the state tournament berth.
The Owls defeated Plankinton 2-1 in the first round of the district tournament behind a strong pitching performance of Adam Kaus. Kaus went the distance giving up one unearned run, allowing only five hits, and striking out 10.
The Owls scored their first run of the night in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Nathan Hainy that scored Kaus. Their second run of the night was scored by Kevin Mebius in the seventh on a single from Jason Kolousek. Nathan Hainy led the way with three hits.

Jay Fischer pitched the complete game by giving up only three runs on five hits. The offense got going in the second inning on a two-run home run from Kevin Mebius. Nathan Hainy added another two-run home run in the third inning. Lee Fischer had three hits at the plate.
