Mindy Kraft took the girls’ title and the Springs boys captured the top three spots at the Central Conference Cross Country Meet last week. Mindy Kraft continues to come back stronger each race after battling with upper respiratory issues, if Wednesday’s race for the individual title at the Central Conference was any indicator. Mindy held her composure throughout the race and used some strategy throughout the course to position herself well in the extremely windy conditions. Junior, Lindsey Mettler has really peaked at the right time this season. Lindsey is going off the starting line stronger and using that momentum to carry her throughout the race. Mindy won the girls’ title in the Central Conference meet with a time of 16:01. Lindsey medaled in 11th place with a time of 17:44. Amy Woodruff took 26th place time with a 24:04. Together these three young ladies placed third as a team with 34 points. Winning the CSD for the girls’ side was Chamberlain with 12 points and runner-up honors went to Mobridge-Pollock with 19 points. There were six complete teams for the conference. Our Central Conference meet was run in conjunction with the Lake Region meet.
On the boys’ side of the CSD it was eighth grader, Jase Kraft running a very impressive race through the wind and standing water. Jase set a personal record with his time of 17:38 and a photo finish at the finish line with Bo Butler of Warner, who was the individual champ of the Lake Region.
Seniors Mitch and Drew Kraft went 1,2 at the CSD. Mitch won the race with a time of 17:12 and Drew’s 2nd place time was 17:14. Jase’s 3rd place time was 17:38. Junior, Cordell Muilenburg finished in 5th place with his time of 17:52. The CSD had eight of the nine fastest times. The WSHS Spartans had four of those top eight times amongst all of the runners. Together the Spartans captured the team title lowest possible score of 6 points. Runner-up team honors went to Chamberlain, 27 points and Miller was 3rd in team points with 30.
The Spartan Cross-Country team will go to Salem on Wednesday, October 14 to participate in the Region 2B meet. The region meet will start at 1:30 pm with the girls’ varsity running first, followed by the boys’ varsity and then JV. The top twenty varsity individuals and top three teams advance to the state cross-country meet to be held out i
