Curtis Huffman, of Wessington Springs, won the Big Island International Marathon held at Hilo, Hawaii, on Sunday, March 18 with a time of 2:39:31. There were more than 250 entries in the race from across the United States and several countries.
The win was the second marathon victory for the Wessington Springs runner. He captured first place in the 2011 Omaha, NE, marathon. Prior to that he placed in the top 100 at the internationally-known Boston Marathon.
He can regularly be seen training on the streets of Wessington Springs. Huffman is employed in the Wessington Springs school system.
