Dr. Diane Winter (right) saw her final patient on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 as MarYanna Heydon (left) came in at 3:30 that day for an appointment that would finish up a career that has spanned over 45 years as a doctor of chiropractic.
Dr. Diane actually retired a month before on May 15, but she could not turn down a few of her loyal friends and patients so she spent about a day each week over the past month seeing just a few. “The time has come… when it’s time to quit, it’s time to quit,” Dr. Diane said.
So she will spend time now trying to get her patients’ records to them or transferring them to the doctor of their choice. The records will be available at her home in Wessington Springs.
She is also trying to find someone who could use her beautiful building on Dakota Avenue in Wessington Springs. A search for a new chiropractor for Wessington Springs has come up empty so she will try to find someone who can use it for another purpose. “And it comes with a nice rental apartment in the downstairs,” she added.
Dr. Diane came to practice in Wessington Springs on May 1, 1984, after she married local businessman Darrell Winter. She was a doctor of chiropractic for approximately 45 years, except for a few years off to raise her family. Son Kirk Luymes and his wife, Lynda (Knight) also moved to Springs where they own and operate Total Construction and rental properties.
“I can fondly look back to the wonderful people who trusted me with their care needs. They have helped me create many great memories,” she said.
