Farmers’ Market kicked off last Thursday

THE COMMUNITY Farmers’ Market kicked off last Thursday, August 12th from 4:30-6:30 at the east picnic shelter in the city park. Sweet corn was one of the top items with two vendors set up to sell the popular vegetable. You could also find a variety of items at other vendors including fresh baked whole wheat bread made from fresh milled Jerauld County wheat, salad baskets, small paintings and exotic hides from the Durdles. Baking apples were available as well as farm fresh eggs. The market is part of a program and grant from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture to encourage local markets. For more information, contact Linda Burg at 539-1373 or the Wessington Springs Area Development Corporation office at 539-1929. The markets are planned for every Thursday until further notice.
