Odin Ness 78 of Wessington Springs died Wednesday morning March 11, 2009 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs with Pastor Jan Price officiating. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites by the Willman-Fee American Legion Post of Wessington Springs.

Odin John Ness was born on November 18, 1930 in Bijou Hills, SD to Neil S and Mildred (Fralick) Ness.

He grew up in the Gann Valley area and entered the United States Air Force in April 1951 and was discharged in August 1953.

He married Phyllis J. Teeslink on April 28, 1955 at her parents, home west of Wessington Springs. They lived in the Gann Valley area, then, moved to the Gehan Ranch west of Wessington Springs.

They continued working on the ranch for HC Peterson until 1990 when they moved into Wessington Springs.

After moving into town he worked for Caffee Farms as a ranch hand and then went to work for Springs Auto delivering vehicles, which he really enjoyed seeing the countryside. He will especially miss his many card playing days with special friends.

Those grateful for having shared his life are his four sons John of Wessington Springs, Keith and his wife Deanna of Black Hawk, Curt and Dave both of Wessington Springs; his three daughters Melva, Marla and Mette all of Wessington Springs; a daughter-in-law Connie Ness of Wessington Springs; five grandchildren Jamie, Liberty Heilman and her husband Monte, Jeremy, Julie Bell and her husband Brain and Tony and his fiance’ Somer; five great-grandchildren Jenna, Kaia, Jorryn, Tayha and Carlie; three brothers Einar and Lyle both of Huron and Melvin of Lake Preston; one sister Neva of Sioux Falls and one sister-in-law Linda Ness of Kimball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis in 2003, one brother LeRoy (Cork) and one grandson Justin.
