OBITUARY

LORA SCHROEDER

Lora Schroeder, 89, of Brandon, died Friday, December 19, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Home, Sioux Falls. Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 22 at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, rural Valley Springs. Committal will be 2:00 PM Monday at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs, SD.

Lora Reiner, daughter Jacob and Marie (Schaefer) Reiner, was born on September 5, 1919 at Wessington Springs, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. She grew up in rural Wessington Springs and attended grade school in Viola Township. Lora graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1937. She was the homecoming queen of Wessington Springs High School that year. Lora received her teaching certificate from Huron College and taught school in rural Jerauld County.

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1941, Lora was united in marriage with William Schroeder at Hudson, SD. They farmed in Jerauld County until 1971 when William joined the administration of Governor Richard F. Kneip as Secretary of Agriculture. Lora lived in Pierre and was an active member of Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre, where she taught Sunday School and Bible classes for many years. She later moved to Bethany Meadows in Brandon, SD.

Lora was always concerned about those in need. She took her mother, father, her brother and her mother-in-law into her home during their final days. Lora was also a loving wife and mother.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Bruce Schroeder and his wife, Diane, Brandon, SD, Colleen Rein and her husband, Richard, Denver, CO; two grandsons, Jason Schroeder, Salt Lake City, UT, Joshua Schroeder, Brandon, SD; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Taysha, Salt Lake City, UT; her sister, Lillian Breitkreutz, Mitchell, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lora was preceded in death by her husband, William; her son, Noel Ray; her granddaughter, Nichol Anna; her parents; three brothers, Reinhold, Leo and Edwin; and a sister, Edna.
