Elmer Lloyd Erickson was born on October 6, 1915, to Karl and Suzanne (Welter) Erickson. He graduated from Lane High School in 1933 and farmed with his father.
On October 27, 1941, Lloyd was united in marriage to Dorothy Lillehaug at Solberg Lutheran Church. He was the manager of Fruen Elevator in Lane for three years and continued farming until Lloyd and Dorothy moved to Wessington Springs in 1996. He lived on the same farm for fifty years.
Lloyd was treasurer of Lane School for 16 years before the school closed. He was also treasurer of Solberg Lutheran Church for many years and he served on the Jerauld County Hospital Board for several years. He was also sexton of the Solberg Cemetery for many years. Lloyd was an avid sports fan, especially basketball, and was well know for his wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors blessed with sharing Lloyd’s life are his wife Dorothy of Wessington Springs, his sister Arlene Scheel of Huron, and a sister-in-law Doreen Erickson of Sioux Falls, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Elmer, Albert and LaVerne (Tuffy), two sisters Agnes and Ann, and an infant son, David.

Lloyd and Dorothy were my baptismal sponsors in 1948. Every year since they have stayed in touch with me. They have been a caring and loving influence on me throughout my life…even though I moved away from South Dakota when I was in fifth grade.
My father, Robert, and he went to Solberg Lutheran Church and school in Lane together.
My family always looked forward to family gatherings and picnics when Lloyd was there…always had a grand sense of humor and a kind heart.
My sympathy to Dorothy and family.
Love,

Lloyd Erickson will be missed by many friends throughout the nation who have been involved in the formation and development of the Solberg Lutheran Cemetery Association. We realize the tremendous influence, effortand support that Lloyd has given to the status and maintenance of that cemetery over many years. He had been pretty much the sole caretaker of that cemetery since the merger of the four Lutheran congregations into Our Savior’s Lutheran Church many years ago.
For many of us, our memories of Lloyd, Dorothy and their family go back to the old Solberg Lutheran Church.

Yes, Lloyd had many friends in the Wessington Springs area. I visited him recently in the local nursing home. He had considerable pain and discomfort, but still looked MANY years younger than the 90-plus years that he had lived. Everyone remembers Lloyd for his kindness and sense of humor.
