Lee Miles Scott

Lee Miles Scott, 85, of Wessington Springs died Friday evening March 20 at his home. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday March 26 at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Jan Price officiating. Military rites will be held at the church by the Willman-Fee American Legion Post 14. The family will be on hand at the church to greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Lee was born on October 8, 1923 in Dale Township near Wessington Springs at the home of his parents, Gordon and Ethel (Husban) Scott. In 1935 he moved with his parents to a farm in Chery Township. Lee attended country school in both Dale and Chery Township and attended high school in Wessington Springs, graduating in 1941.

He entered the US Army in 1945 and spent 19 months in the United States and Germany.

On December 7, 1947, Lee was united in marriage to Irene Tschetter in Huron, South Dakota. To this union four children were born. Lee and Irene were engaged in farming and ranching in Chery Township for over 40 years.

In 1994 they retired and moved to their home in Wessington Springs.

Lee enjoyed buying good bulls and raising good cattle. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, trapping and hunting with family and friends. He was happy to have hunted pheasants last fall. He enjoyed telling stories about growing up in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Coffee and cards were a planned part of his retirement.

He was a long time township board member, camping club member, American Legion, county leader of the NFO and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Lee is survived by his wife Irene of Wessington Springs, two sons Leighton Scott and his wife Sue of Wessington Springs and Gordon Scott and his wife Monica of Ft. Pierre; two daughters Linda Scott of Honesdale, PA and Tammy Scott and her fiancee Jay Trent of Yutan, Neb; two sisters Neva Christensen of Aberdeen, SD and Lois Baker of St. George, UT; and one brother Norman of Cheyenne, WYO; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ralph, a sister-in-law Wanda Scott, and two brothers-in-law Harlan Christensen and Ray Baker.
