Laura M. Flannery 98 of Wessington Springs died Monday afternoon at the Weskota Manor/Avera Health. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at the Basham Funeral Chapel in Wessington Springs with Rev. Roger Easland officiating. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Basham Funeral Home Thursday morning one hour prior to the service.
Laura Haven Flannery was born on January 7, 1911 to F. George and Tella (Sheridan) Haven at Ashton, South Dakota. She lived on a farm near Brentford, SD until graduating from Brentford High School in 1928. She attended South Dakota State College in Brookings for one year and then graduated from Aberdeen College and became a legal secretary. She worked for attorneys, Sterling and Clark in Redfield for 13 years.
Laura married Gerald H. Flannery in Wessington Springs on December 7, 1942, and made Wessington Springs her home until her death.
She was an avid sports fan, a bridge player, and enjoyed casinos, reading, walking and working crossword puzzles.
Laura is survived by her step-daughter-in-law Verda Flannery of Wessington Springs, six step-grandchildren Kevin Flannery, Kris and her husband Steve McMullin Karen and her husband Tom Weiss, Kelly and his wife Victoria Flannery, Mark and his wife Chris Sundstrom and David and his wife Angelia Sundstrom and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald in 1980, a sister Vera Stuck, a step-daughter Shirley Sundstrom, one step-grandchild Kim Flannery, a step-great grandchild and a great nephew.
