Frances “Grammy” Gaulke

GaulkeFrances “Grammy” Gaulke, 90, of Pierre, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Mary House in Pierre. Her funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 12, at Mary House Chapel. Burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery in Gann Valley. Frances was born on May 22, 1919 in St. Louis MO to Bernard and Catherine (Konnersmann) Macke. She grew up and attended school in St. Louis. In 1943 she was united in marriage to Gerald Gaulke and in 1947 they moved to a farm near Gann Valley where they lived until she moved to Pierre in 1975. She enjoyed embroidery and helping others. In Pierre she was employed at Taco John’s and Country King were she was well known as “Grammy”. In 2002 she moved to Maryhouse where she resided until the time of her death. Frances is survived by her three children: Geraldine Aman of Sioux Falls, Laurene Wieczorek of Pierre and Tom (Teresa Disburg) Gaulke of Phoenix AZ; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Anna Ade and Dorthy Matejka and dear family friend Ethel Fry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald and three sisers: Agnes Bolin, Marie Matejka and Rita Farmer. Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre has been placed in care of the arrangements.
