Evelyn “Evie” VonEye, beloved wife, loving mother, and devoted grandmother lost her courageous battle with cancer November 1st, 2009 at Avera Weskota Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Evelyn Rose Lee McHenry VonEye was born March 21st, 1955 to Frederick F. McHenry and Evelyn E. Lang McHenry at Jerauld County Memorial Hospital in Wessington Springs, SD. She was baptized into the Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed at the United Methodist Church. On November 21st, 1958 she was joined by a sister, Marla Marie McHenry Paulsen. She attended K-12 in Wessington Springs. She was married to David James VonEye December 22nd, 1972. In 1973, she moved to a farm in Beadle County where she farmed with her husband and their son Kevin James VonEye.
Evie enjoyed farm life including checking cattle, caring for the young livestock, and hunting for wild flowers in the pastures. She also enjoyed cooking and making the holidays a special focus for family. Another favorite pastime was entertaining pheasant hunters each fall.
She is survived by her husband David VonEye, her son Kevin VonEye, daughter in law Nikki VonEye, and two grandsons Chase and Kade VonEye, her parents Frederick and Evelyn McHenry, her sister Marla Paulsen, and brother in law Michael Paulsen, numerous aunts and uncles, and two special aunts Bernice Metler and Janet Peskey and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Carl and Connie Lang and Marion and Rosey McHenry, her aunt Barbara Coisman, her uncle Raymond Lang, and brother in law Ernie VonEye.
