Darrell Dean Wenzel

Darrell Dean Wenzel, 78, of Broadus died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Facility in Miles City.

Mr. Wenzel was born in Wessington Springs, S.D., to Joseph and Olive Homewood Wenzel. He started farming on his own in high school, and his first field was Flax Seed with which he actually made money.

He attended welding school and continued working odd jobs. He came to Broadus during the oil boom and drove the water truck. Mr. Wenzel worked in Gillette, Glendive and Sidney following the rigs.

He and Helen Tourville were married on May 12, 1970, at Belle Fourche, S.D. In 1980, he continued farming and hauling hay. Mr. Wenzel moved to town in Broadus where he ran a scrap iron business with his brother, George, for a couple years. He then worked for JB Hunt driving truck, and he was very proud of the fact that in 16 years of employment with them, he never had an accident. He received several safety awards for this accomplishment.

Mr. Wenzel loved to trap and fish. He also liked to play pool, and was a “tough” Rummy (Duce is Wild) player. His entire life he was very passionate about recycling.

He is survived by three sons: James Dean Wenzel (Kandi) of Hampton, Ga., Darrell Lee Wenzel (Mari) of Independence, Iowa, and Mark Wenzel (Rita) of Broadus; four daughters: Cindy Septer (Dennis) of Avoca, Iowa, Brenda Johnson of Denver, Colo., Mary Kay Parson (Paul) of Cheyenne, Wyo., Ann Copely of Liberal, Neb., and Darlene Woolston (Shane) of Broadus; two brothers: Joe Jr. Wenzel (Dodie) of Casper, Wyo., and George Wenzel (Tingle) of Buffalo, Wyo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
