Darlene Trevelene Johnson Rice, age 90, of Wessington Springs died Wednesday morning, June 22, 2011, at the Weskota Manor/Avera Health. Funeral services were Saturday June 25, at the Basham Funeral Chapel in Wessington Springs with Rev. John Paulson officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery at Mitchell, SD.
Darlene Trevelene Johnson was born on August 27, 1920 at Woonsocket, SD to E. B. and Helen (Helgeland) Johnson.
She was baptized, then, confirmed on July 25, 1935 at the Storla Lutheran Church rural Letcher, SD. She attended school in the Woonsocket area. Later she moved with her family to the rural Letcher area, then moving to Mitchell.
She worked in the retail sales for GG Fashions in Mitchell where she was promoted to manager, later being transferred to Sioux Falls and then to Rapid City and later returning to Sioux Falls.
Darlene was united in marriage to Richard Rice on October 10, 1991 at Salem, SD.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Darlene is survived by her husband Richard of Wessington Springs, two sons Ronald Sperlich and his wife Cindy of Wessington Springs, SD, David Lauer and his wife LeAnn of Rapid City, SD, a brother Les Johnson and his wife Carmen of Mitchell, SD, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Lauer, and infant daughter, two brothers Carol and Dean, and a sister Dolores.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at P. O. Box 465 Wessington Springs, SD.
