cheryl schwartzNorth Kansas City, Missouri – Cheryl Ann Schwartz, 62, formerly of Wessington Springs passed away after a battle with cancer, Saturday, July 25, 2009 at her home in North Kansas City, MO.

A memorial service was held at North Kansas City Hospital on Monday, July 28, 2009. A second memorial service, was held with Rev. Sarah Dean officiating, at the United Church of Christ in her home town of Wessington Springs, South Dakota on Thursday, July 30, 2009. A private burial service was held at Hope Cemetery. Cheryl Ann Schwartz was born May 10, 1947 at Fort Monmoth, New Jersey to Kurt and Janice Schwartz. She grew up with her three siblings and received her education in the Wessington Springs public schools, graduating from Wessington Springs High School in 1965. She earned a BS in Nutrition from South Dakota State University in 1969 and an MS in Nutritional Science from Colorado State University.

After becoming a Registered and Licensed Dietitian she worked as a dietician at Beth Israel Hospital, in Denver, CO; Glenwood Hospital in Glenwood Springs, CO; St. Josephs Hospital, in Omaha, NE; for Opti-Fast, in Independence, MO; and finished her career by serving the North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City, MO for 19 years. She was recognized in her field locally, regionally and nationally receiving numerous awards for her work in nutrition and dietetics.

She was passionate about her family, friends, photography, skiing, sailing, wind surfing, sports, scrapbooking, and genealogy.

Surviving family members include, her mother, Janice and sister, Judy of Wessington Springs; brother, Gary and wife, Myrna of Springdale, AR and their children Michael and wife, Maureen, and son, Dane of Shawnee KS, and Matthew and wife Jennifer, and son, Oliver of Lawrence, KS; sister, Joanne and husband, Robert of Sugar Land, TX and their children Adam and wife, Holly of Provo, Utah, Kristen and Kurtis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kurt.
