Bobbie Jean Gaulke was born June 12, 1970 in Shakopee Minnesota to David and Judy (Krog) Gaulke.
When she was three she was diagnosed with leukemia. She was given 3 months to live.
The University of Minnesota contacted her and asked if she would be interested in an experimental program, which she agreed to. They used one hundred children with leukemia and divided them into five groups and gave five different treatments, after two months all the groups were deceased except her group of twenty. The University then divided them into 5 groups again and her group of 4 was the only survivors. The University then divided them into two groups of 2. Bobbie and another boy were the only survivors at the time but the boy eventually passed.
Through that experiment, they started additional treatment on other children and had an eighty five percent success rate. Due to this initial research hundreds of thousands of children have survived Leukemia today.
Bobbie Graduated in 1989 from Kennedy High School in Bloomington. She continued additional education through Vo-tech. She enjoyed participating in all kinds of sports but especially softball, bowling and fishing. She had won a few city softball championships while in Minnesota. She was a very accomplished bowler. She won several bowling state championships in Minnesota as well as South Dakota.
She retired with her parents in 2004 and moved to Gann Valley South Dakota. She enjoyed fishing on the Missouri river and working part time at the Horseshoe K Ranch. Her cell phone message is “I’m either fishing or bowling please leave a message”.
Due to the treatment she received when she was younger she had complications starting in 2004. She went through brain surgery for a tumor and later developed LMS cancer.
