ALMA WINTER

Alma Winter, age 88, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, SD, formerly of rural Wessington, died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the Huron SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 18, at First Presbyterian Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Visit www.welterfuneralhome.com

Alma Winter was born Alma Schimke on August 30, 1917, to David and Pauline (Weltz) Schimke at Martin, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church at Harvey, North Dakota.

On November 3, 1940, Alma married Rueben Winter at Harvey.

She became a member of New Zion Congregational Church after the closing of the church in Harvey. She also was a member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church.

Alma and Rueben farmed in the Wessington area until 1991 at which time they retired and moved to Huron. They became members of First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by 1 son, Gordon (Barbara) Winter of Medford, Oregon; 1 daughter, Joyce (Marvin) Hines of Huron; 2 grandsons, Dr. Todd (Deann) Winter of Medford, OR, and Kip (Jennifer) Hines of Moorhead, MN; 2 granddaughters, Heidi (Steve) Tracht of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Darla (Eric) Porter of Huron; 9 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Ruth Edinger of Bismarck, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rueben on April 20, 2006; 9 sisters, Ida Gall, Leona Gall, Emma Neutz, Edna Neutz, Hilda Winter, Theresa Leicshmer, Erna Zaller, Linda Tiede, and Viola Seibold; 3 brothers Emanuel Schimke, William Schimke, and Herbert Schimke; and 1 great grandson, Logan Winter.
