Alexa Jeanne Kleppin, age 95, of Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Foothills Bible Fellowship in Wessington Springs. Burial followed at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7 a.m., Wednesday, also at the church, with a prayer service at 7.

Alexa Jeanne (Grieve) KleppinwasbornDecember 3, 1928, to Lawrence and Jennie (Elder) Grieve, in Wessington Springs. She was the 2nd of 8 children. She grew up on the family farm in Harmony Township, and attended Templeton rural school before Wessington Springs High School and eventually South Dakota State University where she graduated in 1950. On November 4, 1948, she married Keith Kleppin.

Following their graduation, they moved to Wessington Springs where she taught Home Economics. She also served as deputy county auditor, and did bookwork for Jerauld County Farmers Union and Jens Christenson Agency. In 1950, she and Keith moved to the farm where they farmed, raised livestock and operated a wheat farm in Montana for many years.

She was a member of Templeton Church, the women’s fellowship, and also taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was baptized on December 14, 1952, at Templeton Church, by Rev. Reinhold Klein. She was a PEO member where she held various offices.

Alexa enjoyed reading, ceramics, painting and sewing, baking, cooking, gardening, and entertaining company.

She is survived by her sister, Vonna Mentzer; one brother-in-law, Chuck Peters; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Kleppin; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Dick and Darlene Fulton, who she always called “her Montana kids”.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Keith; one infant son in 1963; her parents; four brothers and two sisters; five sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
