East of Wessington Springs on Highway 281

A Missouri man died in a motorcycle-semi crash on Thursday, August 12, on U.S. Highway 281 a mile south of the intersection with SD Hwy 34.

Maynard E. Jones, Sr., 53, of Hazelwood, Mo., was northbound on a 2006 Harley Davidson when he attempted to pass a 2000 International semi-tractor driven by Evan S. Skiles, 24, of Wessington Springs. Skiles was making a left turn at the time and the motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the semi-trailer.

Jones was thrown from his motorcycle. he was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene of the accident.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the accident. Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
