Margaret Schmidt and her students please the judge
Margaret Schmidt and her art students apparently pleaesd the judges at the 14th annual SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Creative Art Show in Sioux Falls recently. A longtime area artist and art teacher, Margaret Schmidt won her division in oil painting among other awards. Her students, Louise Schaller and Peg Olson, of Wessington Springs, also were award winners. Another of her students, Lowell Stanley, Wessington Springs, also participated in the contest.
The 14th Annual SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Creative Art Show and Competition for artists over age 60 was held October 25-26,
at the Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls. With over 170 entries, professional judges John Green and Arne Bortnem awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place, Honorable Mentions and Best of Show to art pieces in seven different mediums of two age groups. The attendees of the event chose People’s Choice entries.
-SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks is hosted
by the South Dakota Health Care Association, Home Federal Bank and KELOLAND Television as a way to demonstrate the personal growth that is a part of aging by featuring the creative talents of older South Dakotans.
First, Second, Third, Best of Show and People’s Choice will be on Exhibit at the following locations:
Winners from this area included: Margaret Schmidt, Lane, first, Masters Division, watercolor painting “Floral with Bee”; Margaret Schmidt, Lane, Master Division, drawing/pastel, third, “Bill Pattison”; Peg Olson, Wessington Springs, second, Masters, oil painting, “Along the Foot Path”; Peg Olson, oil painting, honorable mention, “A Desert Lookout”; Louise Schaller, Wessington Springs, Experienced Division, oil painting, third, “Rescue in the Storm”.
Margaret Schmidt’s son, Jim, of Huron and formerly of Lane, was first in Experienced Division oil painting, “Waiting for the Restoration” and oil painting, second, “Minnekahta Juncion.”
