The Jerauld County Commission is currently looking to ask the Jerauld County Taxpayers to consider a $450,000 opt out for the next 8 years to help fund the following road and bridge projects in Jerauld County. This will repeal the current $150,000 opt out.
The Jerauld County commission is currently looking to re-grade and re-pave the Alpena Oil (221st Street) from US Highway 281 to State Highway 224. The total cost of the project is estimated at 2.5 million dollars.
They would use the tax funds collected to make payments to the state as part of a SIB (State Infrastructure Bank) loan and to also fund the following projects to be completed in the next 8 years.
Project 01-0 Oil North of Wessington Springs, Chip Seal 7 miles at a cost of approx. $25,000 per mile = $175,000
Project 18-0 Crow Lake Oil – Chip Seal 7 miles @ a cost of approx. $25,000 per mile = $175,000
Project 12-0 Oil South of Town – Chip Seal 7 miles @ a cost of approx. $25,000 per mile = $175,000
Project 18-0 Crow Lake Oil- Overlay the South approx. 3.4 miles at a cost of $125,000 per mile = $425,000
Sand Creek Bridge Structure #37-238-010 (7 miles North and 5.8 miles East of Wessington Springs, SD. 221st Street). The current structure is rated for 21 ton for a single truck- 34 ton for a semi with trailer- 40 ton for a semi with doubles. This is one of the 2 most traveled gravel roads in Jerauld County and takes as many as 100 loaded trucks a day during harvest.
Also, in the following year they are looking at replacing structure #37-050-082 as well as overlaying project CA-8. Structure #37-050-082 is located 13 miles West and ¼ miles South of Wessington Springs (Willman Road). Project CA-8 is located from State Highway 34 to the Vet Clinic corner east of the Elementary School.
Cost: The cost of the opt out would be an additional $1.07 per $1000 of evaluation over the current assessment. (Estimated) Examples: On an average acre of land ($800 assessed value), it would cost an approx. $.71 per acre additional. For a $50,000 house it would raise taxes an additional $49 per year.
