Track and Field Season Officially Underway: Meet the Spartans

With Mother Nature canceling one of our meets last week, we were able to get another meet added to our schedule by traveling to Avon on Friday, April 12, 2024. Mother Nature made up for it with great track meet weather.

Ryder Michalek placed 2nd in the high jump at 5’ 11”. Over to the west of the track, they threw javelin. Branden Flowers threw 91’ 7” and Holden Havlik had a toss of 140’ 10” to capture first place. At the east end of the track, Grady Gran led the Spartans by landing his shot put out 37’ 9” for 5th place. Robbie Hine threw 34’ 7” and Carter Gaikowski threw 31’ 2”. Avery Orth led all Spartans throwing the discuss 83’ 1” and Anna Arhart threw it 75’ 5”, while Brooklyn Caffee landed 69’ 8”.

In the second session of field events, Avery Orth won the shot put with her throw of 36’ 11” and she placed 7th in javelin with her toss of 77’ 7”. Anna Ahart threw shot 27’ 9.5” and Kaebry Dixon threw shot 18’ 10”. Lily Roesler threw javelin 50’ 1”. Robbie Hine threw the discus 120’ 9” to land in 4th place. Also throwing discus were Branden Flowers at 88’ 9” and Carter Gaikowski threw 85’ 0”.

On the track we started with the 100m hurdles where Bailey Yost ran 19.90 to cross the line in 5th place. The girls’ two-mile relay was run by Alyssa Grohs, Abby Kolousek, Ella Kolousek, and Kenzie Kolousek who combined times for 10:53.85 to cross in 2nd place. The boys’ 2-mile relay of Karter Mebius, Ryder Michalek, Richard Cardona, and Sam Poncelow finished in 9:04.22 for 1st place. The members of the first-place relay teams also received a small Pirate trophy up on the podium.

Back to the track for sprints, we had the 100m dash. Kaebry Dixon ran 15.00, Swayzee Dunsmore ran 16.35, and Abi Yost ran 16.94. Holden Havlik ran 12.36 for 4th place, Holden Jackson ran 14.60, and Grady Gran ran 15.67. Girls’ 800m relay of Kendall Kolousek, Londyn Mikkelson, Mariah Messmer, and Kenzie Kolousek ran 204.34 for 8th place. The boys’ 800m relay of Karter Mebius, Will Grohs, Richard Cardona, and Sam Poncelow ran 1:42.38 for 5th place.

Spartans sent three girls to the line for the mile run; Abby Kolousek, 6:20.02 for 2nd place; Masynn Mebius with 6:36.42, for 5th place; and Alexis Roesler 6:44.68 for 6th place. The 400m relay for Kendall Kolousek, Bailey Yost, Londyn Mikkelson, and Mariah Messmer finished 1:00.23 for 6th place. Holden Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Holden Jackson, and Branden Flowers ran 51.13 for 7th place.

Next on the track was the 400m dash. Alyssa Grohs ran 1:08.84 and finished in 3rd place.

Kaebry Dixon ran 1:14.99 for 8th place. Lily Roesler ran 1:28.61. Will Grohs ran 1:01.04 for 6th place.

Haiden Boschee ran 1:08.32 and Kohen Mebius ran 1:12.28. Bailey Yost ran 57.47 in the 300m hurdles for 4th place.

Branden Flowers ran his 300m hurdles in 53.82.

The medley relay of Londyn Mikkelson, Mariah Messmer, Ella Kolousek, and Masynn Mebius ran 5:18.08 for 5th place. Nathan Gaikowski, Ryder Michalek, Karter Mebius, Sam Poncelow ran 3:58.79 to cross in first place. Alyss Grohs finished her 800m run in 2:45.21 for 3rd place. Richard Cardona also placed in 3rd place with his 800m run time of 2:22.70.

Abi Yost ran the 200m dash in 35.91. Nathan Gaikowski ran 25.72 for 8th place in the 200m dash. Also running were Holden Jackson in 29.41 and Haiden Boschee in 30.42. Abby Kolousek ran 14:02.12 in the 2-mile run for 4th place. Right behind her was Alexis Roesler who finished 14:13.97 for 5th place and Kohen Mebius finished in 13:40.04 to capture 4th place for the boys.

Alyssa Grohs, Bailey Yost, Kendall Kolousek, and Kenzie Kolousek finished the mile relay in 4:47.43 for 3rd place. The boys finished in 2nd place in 3:41.95 with members Karter Mebius, Richard Cardona, Ryder Michalek, and Sam Poncelow.

The weather was good, and the kids capitalized on it by performing some personal bests. Our next varsity track meet will be Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in Corsica and then Friday, April 19, we will travel to Mount Vernon for the Greenway Relays with a limited squad as the others will be at the State FFA convention.
