On Tuesday, April 20, 2024, the Spartans traveled south to Burke, to participate in the Meet of Legends. What seemed to be the right choice in terms of weather, as we saw dark clouds and rainbows to the north of us, turned on us as the front moved in once we arrived at Burke. The flag that once hung downwards on the pole, soon flew perpendicular to the pole as the westerly winds gusted. After a short delay for lightning on the track, the meet went on and the Spartans did their best to shine, despite Mother Nature’s efforts to dampen the day.

In the protected grove of trees, the throwers let loose some personal bests. In discus, Avery Orth threw her personal best 88’ 10” for 6th place. Anna Arhart also hit a personal best of 88’ 4” to land her in 7th place. Brooklyn Caffee threw 66’ 6” and Lily Roesler threw 45’ 5”. While the ladies were throwing discus, the boys threw out of the shot-put ring. Robbie Hine led the Spartans with his toss of 36’ 6.5”; Grady Gan threw 35’ 10”; Holden Jackson threw 30’ 6.5” and Jaspur Gran threw 28’ 9”. As the boys and girls swapped rings, Robbie threw 110’ 8” in the discus to land in 5th place. Also throwing discus, Branden Flowers, 91’ 1” for a personal best; Grady Gran, 93’ 5”, and Jaspur Gran threw 67’ 2”. Both Avery & Anna placed in the shot put for the Spartans. Anna threw a season best of 31’ 2” to land in 5th place. Senior, Avery Orth threw 39’ 5” to not only set the meet record, which she broke last year at this meet, but she improved her distance up on the school’s record board.

Brock Krueger went over 5’10” on the high jump bar for 3rd place. He then jumped 37’ 3.5” into the sand at triple jump landing in 2nd place. To cap off her day, Avery Orth threw the javelin 78’ 4” for 6th place. Lily Roesler threw the javelin 50’ 5”. Branden Flowers let the javelin go 99’ 0” for a personal best for him. Holden Havlik was unable to throw as he came up injured on the track in the medley relay. This meet does the medley relay first, so teams can run their runners in the open 400 or 800, unlike most meets where they are back-to-back. As previously mentioned, Havlik pulled up injured with a level one tear in his hamstring in the opening leg of medley relay. The girls medley of Kendall Kolousek, Mariah Messmer, Alyssa Grohs, and Kenzie Kolousek finished 4:48.14 for 4th place.
