SOME MULE DEER stand behind an old rock barn wall in Hawkeye Valley south of Springs last week. The Jerauld County deer opener is this Saturday, November 21. An abundance of deer should make for a good season for both the doe hunters and the ones after the big buck. The East River deer season is November 21-December 6; in addition, unfilled “any deer” tags will convert to “any antlerless deer,” and “any whitetail” to “antlerless whitetail” permits valid December 26-January 3. The number of deer licenses available in Jerauld County are as follows: Valid for one Any Deer, 50 licenses; Valid for one Antlerless Whitetail, 200 licenses; Valid for one Any Whitetail and one Antlerless Whitetail, 275 licenses; Valid for TWO antlerless Whitetail, 200 licenses.

A LARGE BUCK MULE DEER comes down on the other side of a barbed wire fence just a mile outside of Wessington Springs. Deer season starts on November 14 in Jerauld County with many hunters taking to the field. Many big bucks have been reported as well as a lot of corn fed does. It should be a good season.
