Berniece Jane Odson

Berniece Jane Odson, 90, died October 29, 2011 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday, November 3 at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Graveside services will be at noon on Friday, November 4 at Hope Cemetery, rural Wessington Springs.

 

Berniece Jane Sedgwick was born October 4, 1921 in Wessington Springs, SD to Oliver and Effie (Olson) Sedgwick. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School and Wessington Springs Junior college where she received her teaching certificate. She continued her education at Huron College and Black Hills State. She taught in Raymond, Huron and Sioux Falls. She took great pride in following the careers of her students.

Sharill Dwyer

Sharill Dwyer, 66, of Wessington Springs, died Saturday evening Oct. 29th , 2011 at her residence, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle of 19 years with cancer . Funeral services were held Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Sara Olson Dean officiating. Burial was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Sharill Rae (Hinrichs) Dwyer was born August 9, 1945 in Fullerton, CA to Vincent and Twila (Easton) Hinrichs and was only a few months old before their family returned to South Dakota. Sharill attended Viola Center and Beckman Rural School through the 8th grade before graduating from Wessington Springs High School in 1963. She attended Professional Business Institute in Minneapolis, MN and earned a degree as a Dental Hygienist. On August 7, 1966 she was united in marriage to Roger Dwyer and to this union two children were born. Sharill worked for Dr. Hagman, DDS and Dr. Krueger, DDS. She worked for Wessington Springs Livestock Auction, the United Church of Christ, Formal Expressions, Amkota CO-OP and TJ’s Food Center. Sharill was a longtime member of the Chery Club, Order of the Eastern Star and PEO. Sharill was a static exhibit judge for many local area 4-H Achievement Days and at the SD State Fair. She was a supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life; loved to decorate for any holiday, especially the magic of Christmas; was an exceptional cook, gardener, homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. It is going to take many people to fill the void left in the life of her family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 45 years, Roger of Wessington Springs; daughters Michelle (Andy)Kleven of Onida, SD and Melanie (Aaron) Schelske of Virgil, SD; five grandchildren Preston, Devan and Kendra Kleven and Cadee and Mason Schelske; sister Darlene (Charles) Bergeleen of Wessington Springs; sisters-in-law Grace and Gloria Dwyer and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Vince & Twila Hinrichs; mother and father-in-law, Donald and Maryan Dwyer and brothers-in-law Jack and Dihl Dwyer.

Merwyn E. Moore

Merwyn E. Moore, 87, Wessington Springs, died Monday, October 17, 2011 at Weskota Manor/Avera Health, Wessington Springs with his family at his side.

 

He was born May 28, 1924.

 

Funeral service was Thursday at Basham Funeral Chapel, Wessington Springs. Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.

 

Merwyn E. Moore was born to Robert C. and Lillie M. (Judd) Moore on a farm near Bushnell, SD.

MYRON (MIKE) MEBIUS

 

Myron Mebius, 80, of Plankinton, SD, died early Friday morning Sept. 2, 2011 at the Firesteel Nursing Home in Mitchell, SD. Funeral services were held Monday Sept. 5, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Plankinton. Burial was in the Prospect Hill Cemetery at Wessington Springs.

 

Myron Mebius was born October 25, 1930 to Jacob and Anna (Schmoll) on a farm 17 1/2 miles west of Wessington Springs.

 

He grew up in the Gann Valley area and attended grade school there. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1948.

Della Florence Tiede

Della Florence Tiede, 85, of Stanwood, WA passed away August 27, 2011 in Everett, WA.

 

She was born to John and Eunice Patton August 18, 1926 in Wessington, SD. Della graduated from Wessington Springs High School in South Dakota in 1944 and went on to Seattle Pacific College in pre-nursing.

 

She then completed her BS in nursing at University of Washington in 1951. Later she achieved her M.S. in nursing at U.W.

 Mike Rogers (Dork), 58, of Huron, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

 

A celebration of his life will be held 3 PM Thursday, August 11th at the Plains Ballroom with Reverend Tim Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date. Dennis Pflaum

Dennis Pflaum passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2011, after a period of illness. He passed away at home in Ventura, CA. with family and friends by his side.

 

Dennis was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Wessington Springs, S.D., to Andy and Daisy Pflaum. He is survived by his son, Andrew Pflaum of Ventura, and his sister, Camilla Pflaum of Alameda. He is also survived by stepdaughters, Kathy Smith, Cindy Pullium, Aleshia Macom and their children. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Pflaum, parents, grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

TOM SHOTTENKIRK

Tom Shottenkirk 58 of rural Wessington Springs died Sunday July 31, 2011 in Freemont, County, WY, as the result of a motorcycle accident. His memorial service was held Friday August 5, at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs with Pastor Jan Price officiating.

Thomas Clinton Shottenkirk was born to Don and Dorothy (Schuman) Shottenkirk on December 10, 1953. He grew up on a ranch in Anina Township.

He went to grade school at Nelson Country School and Wessington Springs High School. He worked several different jobs and currently was in Jerauld County on a farm north of Wessington Springs. He was operator and owner of Shottenkirk Iron.

Clarence Schultz, age 96, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday July, 6, 2011 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services were Monday, July 11, 2011 at First Reformed Church with burial at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Huron, SD.

 

Clarence Schultz was born December 8, 1914, at Salem, SD to Paul and Anna (Goedeche) Schultz. He and his two brothers lived with their grandparents after the death of his parents. He worked on the farm for several years with his grandfather.
